We ordered the same 10 photos from Chatbooks and Nations Photo Lab (the highest quality lab in all our tests), scanned them all in, and created this guide just for you.

Pricing, shipping, paper quality, and other juicy details

When we tested August 2020
Summary Chatbooks photo prints are nicely packaged and presented on a thick cardstock. However, they're best for square prints from Instagram. For standard 4x6 prints, it's best to explore other photo printing services as Chatbooks doesn’t give you any way to crop your images prior to printing and they're automatically, awkwardly shrunk to fit into the square format. Additionally, even the prints we uploaded as square didn't bleed to the edge; instead a white and uneven matting was added.

On 2/13/20, we ordered the following photos from Chatbooks. On 2/13/20, we ordered the same photos from Nations Photo Lab.

We scanned in both sets of prints without color correction.

Chatbooks envelopes

When you order photos from Chatbooks, here's what you can
expect the envelope to look like.

A sky blue cardboard square-shaped box vertically positioned on a flat surface. It looks like a big envelope for sending small books. There are two big flaps at the top and bottom (almost meeting at the middle) and each flap looks to have tiny slits in columns of four and rows of 8. Making a total of 32 slits on both flaps. There is a stamp print of guarantee printed on the top flap. It says “MONEY BACK GUARANTEE, #LOVECHATBOOKS.” The mailing labels cover most of the stamp. The white mailing label was probably used to seal both flaps and torn in the middle when it was opened taking some part of the box's top blue paper, and exposing the actual underlying card box paper. The top flap has half of the shipping label. On there is the return address that reads, “CHATBOOKS, 382 W PARK CIRCLE, PROVO UT 84604,” below it, a text says “ADDRESS SERVICE REQUESTED.” Under this is where you find the blurred out shipping address. The top right corner has the postage stamp, it reads, “PS LIGHTWEIGHT, US POSTAGE PAID, UPS MAIL INNOVATIONS, eVS.” And it is printed in a box. The bottom flap has the other half of the shipping label containing text that reads, “USPS TRACKING # eVS.” Under is a blurred out barcode and tracking number, then a thick black line. Below the thick black line, there are some reference numbers. All texts on the shipping label are black. Envelope sitting on wood table top.
